No. LDN Blackjack works entirely in your web browser. Just visit ldnblackjack.com on your phone, tablet or computer and start playing. You can also add it to your home screen for a full-screen app-like experience without downloading anything from the App Store or Google Play.
Yes, LDN Blackjack is completely free to play. Free users will see advertisements between games. We also offer optional Pro tiers (Silver Pro at £2.99/year and Gold Lifetime at £9.99) which remove ads, unlock full leaderboard access, custom avatars and tournament eligibility.
Each game supports 2 to 4 players. You can play against friends by creating a private room and sharing the room code, use Quick Match to find opponents automatically, or add a bot if you want to practise on your own.
No. Casino Blackjack (also called 21 or Pontoon) is a completely different game where you try to get your cards as close to 21 as possible without going over. London Blackjack is a shedding card game where the goal is to get rid of all your cards first. The only thing they have in common is the name. Our game is also known as Switch, Crazy Eights, or Two-Ball depending on where you grew up.
When you're down to your last card, you must press the "Last Card" button to declare it before playing your final card. If you forget and play your last card without declaring, you'll be penalised with an extra card. The declaration lasts for 2 turns, so if you can't play on your next turn and have to draw, you'll need to declare again once you're back down to one card.
Yes. You can play multiple cards in one go if they form a valid combination. This includes rank runs (e.g., three 9s), suited runs (e.g., 4 of hearts, 5 of hearts, 6 of hearts), or mixed pickup stacks (e.g., a 2 and a Black Jack together for 7 cards pickup). Tap each card you want to play, then press "Play Selected".
When the draw pile is empty, the discard pile is shuffled (except for the top card) and becomes the new draw pile. This means the game can continue until someone wins, regardless of how many cards are in play.
We know - every group has their own version of the rules, and arguments about the "correct" rules are part of the fun. The rules in LDN Blackjack are based on the most common version played across London. If you think a rule is wrong or have a suggestion, please let us know at [email protected].
No. In LDN Blackjack, Kings cannot counter pickup penalties. When you're facing a pickup (from a 2 or Black Jack), your only options are to play a 2 (to add to the stack), a Black Jack (to add 5 more), a Red Jack (to cancel the entire stack), or a Joker (which can become any of these). If you can't counter, you must pick up the cards.
Almost. You cannot finish on a Queen (you must always cover a Queen with another card). You also cannot finish on a King in a 2-player game, since a King would skip back to you and the game wouldn't end properly. All other cards are valid finishing cards, as long as you've declared "Last Card" first.
These are used for aggregate leaderboards only. We show fun statistics like "Under 25s have a higher win rate than Over 35s" or age bracket comparisons. Your individual year of birth and gender are never shown publicly. These fields are frozen after signup to prevent leaderboard manipulation. You can choose "Prefer not to say" for gender.
